Bedroom Wall Art Update: Bare Walls vs. Me 0-1
Looking to update your bedroom wall art without breaking the bank? See how I used IKEA’s RIBBA frames and TRILLING posters to warm up a bare wall in minutes.
Since I left my parents’ house to live, study, and work in Athens, I’ve lived in several apartments. I never had any significant problems adjusting these environments to my taste, but there’s one little thing I’ve never managed to tackle in between moves—wall art! I always seem very particular about what should go up on my walls, and I usually spend long periods just letting them be, waiting for that a-ha moment when my eye will fall upon the perfect little something for the space. That means I get to live with bare walls for years until it’s time to move again, and then I have other, new spaces to ponder (not that there’s anything wrong with bare walls in small apartments, especially with open shelving and other furniture leaning against them). Oh, and when I say particular, I don’t necessarily mean expensive, just particular like, I’d rather go blank than put anything arbitrary, or blah, or so and so! The a-ha moments are so sparse, though. On a recent trip to IKEA, however, my eyes fell upon this little set of posters:

Each measures:

…and they just happen to be some of our favorite destinations. So, I popped them into some RIBBA frames and here they are!

Here’s the same space without them from an older post, just for reference…

This minor update cost us $42 (12.00 for the set of posters + $9.99 x 3 for the frames) and took less than 10 minutes to hang. I used screw-in anchors with picture-frame hooks instead of plain nails for these because they’re on the heavy side (something like 4 lbs each), they hang over our heads, and earthquakes are pretty common around here, so hail to my power drill and thank you very much!
Current IKEA Frames
The RIBBA frames have been replaced in recent years by the RÖDALM line. The current equivalent to my frame measures 16 ¾ x 20 ¾” (42.5 x 52.5 cm) and costs $15 (€12). The TRILLING posters are now also obsolete, but the BILD series usually features similar 3-piece sets in the 16 x 20” range.

I know what you mean by that “a-ha!” moment. I am the exact same way. I have left many walls bare in our home simply because nothing I see really stands out, and I refuse to put up just anything, just to take up space. My husband doesn’t get it, though. He cannot understand why any old piece of art work will not do, lol.
As I was reading your post, it made me remember a sign I saw once outside of a local art shop: “Bare walls are a sign of poverty” …hahaha. Obviously I disagree, since more often than not bare walls mean nothing more than “I cannot find anything worth putting on those bare walls!” 😀
Haha, Jeannette my husband doesn’t get it either but he doesn’t mind those bare walls too! He actually thought it was a decorating trend that I had been pulling on all those years because, in all honesty, in all eleven years we’ve been living together this is actually the.first.time I’ve managed to put something up there, LOL!
LOL!
By the way, την καλύτερη συνταγή εσύ την έβαλες. 😉
