Fall Simmer Pots: Aromatherapy for Autumn
While I am typing this post in my sweltering Athenian apartment, I sincerely hope that crisp autumn air rolls in through your windows in your part of the world! If this is the case—you lucky scoundrels—what better way to embrace the season than with homemade fall simmer pots? You only need a few simple ingredients to create a warm ambiance and enjoy the benefits of fall aromatherapy with easy, all-natural essences that will transform your space into a hygge haven.
Crafting your simmer pot
Creating your simmer pot is a simple yet satisfying endeavor. Start with a pot of water on the stove, then add an assortment of aromatic ingredients to suit your preferences and intentions. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low, allowing the pot to simmer. As it steams, the warm, comforting aromas will fill your space, evoking the essence of fall and creating a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.
Added benefit? As simmer pots gently release steam while they heat, they add moisture to the air, helping to combat the dryness that often comes with cooler fall weather. They not only enhance comfort but also support respiratory health during the season. Enjoy!

A word of caution!
You can use any pot that can hold up to 4 cups/1 liter of water. Dutch ovens/cast iron pots are notoriously ideal for simmering since they distribute heat evenly. Never leave a simmering pot unattended—you will need to refill it with water periodically. If you have a crockpot, you can jump-start a boil on the stove and then transfer it to the crockpot to simmer all day safely.
To reuse a simmer pot, let it cool completely and cover with a lid. Store it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to simmer again. Before reheating the pot, make sure there’s enough water to prevent it from drying out. This way, your pot can last for 3-4 more simmers.
