Ok, I’m just gonna go ahead and say it and be hated by women everywhere. I mean, blogging involves a certain degree of exposure, right?! Oh, well, here it goes:

Saturday, March 30th was our anniversary and I totally forgot about it. I always do. Every, single year. Coming March I am always “vaguely” aware this is our month and make a mental note to myself to make preparations for cooking something special on that day or arrange for a night out, etc. Then, every.single.time.on.that.particular.morning I wake up clueless! I have repeatedly promised myself I don’t need to set up an alert of any kind because Google Calendar shouldn’t need to remind me when my anniversary is and I am going to remember next year. 12 entire years have gone by and so far I’ve had no such luck except for once or maybe twice.

You could have smacked me on the head first thing in the morning on Saturday and I still couldn’t tell you what day it was, until M. walked in with this lovely bouquet in his hands and a large smile on his face (of the I-know-you-forgot-again-and-guys-at-the-office-think-you-are-alien kind). I’m not gonna lie, it took a few hmmm-my-birthday-is-on-September seconds but then I worked it all out…

Ε χεμ, είμαι σχεδόν σίγουρη ότι αποτελώ «ουφο-ειδές» δείγμα γυναίκας για πολλούς και διάφορους λόγους, ένας από τους οποίους είναι δυστυχώς και αυτός: κάθε χρόνο –επί τα 12 συναπτά που είμαστε μαζί με τον Μ– ξεχνάω την επέτειο μας. Με το που μπαίνει ο Μάρτιος έχω πάντα στο πίσω μέρος του μυαλού μου πως αυτός είναι ο μήνας μας και «ας οργανωθώ η ανεπρόκοπη αυτη τη φορά να κανονίσω κάτι» (φαγητάκι/ποτάκι/εκπληξούλα), αλλά πού; Έρχεται το συγκεκριμένο πρωινό κι εγώ κοιμάμαι τον ύπνο του δικαίου – κυριολεκτικά και μεταφορικά. Μέχρι που ο καλός μου μπαίνει στο σπίτι με τα λουλούδια αγκαλιά και το χαμόγελο στα χείλη. Ψέματα δε θα σας πω, περνάω μερικά δευτερόλεπτα αμηχανίας του τύπου «γενέθλια-έχω-τον-Σεπτέμβρη-το-όνομά-μου-(αρχαίο-ελληνικό)-δεν-το-γιορτάζω-η-δεκάτη-τετάρτη-Φεβρουάριου-πέρασε;-πέρασε!-δεν-έχουμε-τσακωθεί-πρόσφατα-δεν-είμαι-έγκυος-τι-σκατά-ξεχνάω;» Κάθε, μα κάθε φορά…

Παρ’ όλα αυτά αρνούμαι πεισματικά να θέσω οποιουδήποτε είδους υπενθύμιση σε κινητό, ατζέντα, υπολογιστή γιατί «δε-θα-μου-πει-εμένα-το-Google-Calendar-πότε-έχω-επέτειο!» Του χρόνου θα το θυμηθώ, θα το θυμηθώ, θα το θυμηθώ!
