I thought I might show you how we celebrate the Easter Vigil—the service held on midnight between Holy Saturday & Easter Day—in my home town in Kefalonia, Greece. I realize it may seem kind of weird or even plain crazy but, in my defense(!), the major part of the Mass takes place, normally, in a temple. The thing is that at the time of Matins, right after the Holy Light is passed on to the congregation, the priests and people leave the church and go in procession to the center of the town where they sing the hymn of the Resurrection amidst all the fireworks, firecrackers and sparklers! They return to the temple shortly after for the rest of the service, which typically finishes at 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. Enjoy…
