Litheos River – Sneak Peek Friday
This September has been spent for the most part in Trikala—if you follow me on Instagram, you must have already had your fair share of shots from around the area—and here are a few more of the most common encounters you’re bound to have if you ever find yourself walking the center of the city where the Litheos River flows.
The Litheos River is one of the four total rivers of Trikala (along with Ayamoniotis, Peneus, and Kourmekis). According to Strabo, Asclepius, the god of medicine, was born in Litheos. It is the right tributary of the Peneus River and springs at a height of 500 m/1,640 ft from the Antichasia mountain range. Litheos is 36 km (22.4 mi) long and flows into the Peneus River at 108 m (354 ft) just outside the city of Trikala. The river is one of the main attractions of Trikala, and since it crosses the entire city, its banks are frequently connected by a total of ten bridges, half of which are pedestrian. The central bridge, an arched metal one, was built in France in 1886 (refurbished in 1996 and 2015) and connects the city’s main commercial street (Asclepius Str) with the central city square. Nowadays, Litheos’s waters irrigate approximately 14,000,000 m² (3,459.5 acres).

Very attractive photos ! 😉
Thank you Sabine! 🙂
