Kicking Back the Pebbles’ cookie policy explains what cookies are, how third-party partners may be using them on this blog, and what your choices are regarding cookies.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small pieces of data stored in text files on your computer or other device when websites are loaded in a browser. They are widely used to “remember” you and your preferences, either for a single visit (through a “session cookie”) or for multiple repeat visits (using a “persistent cookie”). They ensure a consistent and efficient visitor experience, performing essential functions such as allowing users to register and remain logged in. Cookies may be set by the site you are visiting (known as “first-party cookies”) or by third parties, such as those who serve content, provide advertising, or analytics services on the website (“third-party cookies”). Kicking Back the Pebbles uses mainly third-party cookies.

How does Kicking Back the Pebbles use cookies?

You should be aware that both websites and HTML emails (such as the Kicking Back the Pebbles Newsletter) may also contain other tracking technologies, including “web beacons” or “pixels”. These are typically small, transparent images that provide third-party services with statistics for similar purposes as cookies. They are often used in conjunction with cookies, though they are not stored on your computer in the same way. As a result, if you disable cookies, the web beacons may still load, but their functionality will be restricted.

When you visit Kicking Back the Pebbles, third-party & ad services may place several cookie files in your web browser.

These cookies are used for various purposes: some are necessary for technical reasons—for example, to enable certain functions within Kicking Back the Pebbles and to provide analytics. Some enable a personalized experience for visitors and registered users, while others allow the display of advertising from selected third-party networks. The cookies may be set when a page is loaded or when a visitor takes a specific action (such as clicking the “like” or “follow” button on a newsletter, blog post, or comment).

What are your choices regarding cookies?

If you wish to delete cookies or default your web browser to delete and/or refuse cookies, please visit the help pages of your specific browser. Note, however, that if you don’t allow sites to save cookies, some or several features on a webpage may not function.

*If you no longer wish to receive a newsletter, there should be an unsubscribe option at the bottom of any campaign.

This year, I felt way too tired, worn out, and somewhat uninterested to decorate for autumn. Instead of hauling out pumpkins and rearranging most of the house, I went with a different strategy: focus on warmer lights, fall-inspired textures, natural accents, comfy nooks, and minor adjustments that change a room’s vibe without loudly announcing FALL HAS ARRIVED. 😏
You know, seasonal decorations aren’t always necessary. All you need is for your home to feel cozier, gentler, and more welcoming as the evenings grow darker.

Some cookies arrive looking like they’ve been through a small disagreement with the laws of symmetry. These are those cookies. Brutti ma buoni — literally “ugly but good” — are wonderfully irregular Italian cookies with a crisp, nutty bite and absolutely no interest in looking polished. And honestly? That’s part of their charm.
They’re the kind of homemade treat that proves you don’t need perfect edges, identical shapes, or a pastry-school diploma to make something seriously delicious. A little rustic, a little unruly, and very, very good. The ugly ducklings of the cookie tin have officially arrived. 🤎

There are breakfasts that require planning, and then there’s homemade granola. Oats, nuts, seeds, coconut, dried fruit, maple syrup and a little cinnamon come together in one gloriously crunchy jar of good intentions. It’s simple, wholesome, endlessly useful and, naturally, best enjoyed with yogurt, fruit, milk… or straight from the jar when nobody is looking!
This is my Homemade Maple Granola—an easy recipe to keep on hand for breakfast, snacking, or those moments when you need something crunchy and sweet but don’t particularly feel like baking.

I emptied 51 years of family life out of 160 square meters in 4 weeks.
There was grief, there was chaos, one very full dump truck, and a rather somber trip down memory lane. The entire process was gut-wrenching, exhausting, expensive; occasionally absurd. Not every item was salvageable. Not everything was worth keeping. But some things deserved a second life—and, quite unexpectedly, many of them found one.
The house is all empty now, and fifty-one years of family life have been reduced to a handful of boxes, photographs, recipes, and museum exhibits(!). But, as it turns out, these glimpses of history were never meant to be kept in a single homestead forever. Perhaps sometimes—
I thought I'll let you know what it all boils down to in my next Substack. 🧡 Stay tuned!

Think you know Greek rice pudding (rizogalo)? This version may surprise you.
Made with rich buffalo milk, fresh lime zest, and sprinkled with cinnamon, it takes a beloved Greek classic and gives it an extra layer of velvety richness without losing the simple comfort that makes rizogalo so timeless. The result? Creamier. Silkier. Just a little more indulgent... and absolutely worth trying if you ever get your hands on buffalo milk!
