Chocolate Mint Dirt Cupcakes – A #groundhogday treat (recipe 🔗 in bio) 🦡🦫🪵

Τις πρώτες μέρες του Φεβρουαρίου, ανάμεσα στο χειμερινό ηλιοστάσιο και στην εαρινή ισημερία, οι Κέλτες γιόρταζαν το Ίμπολκ (Imbolc), γιορτή συνυφασμένη με τη γονιμότητα και την αρχή της άνοιξης. Με την εξάπλωση του χριστιανισμού στην Ευρώπη, το Imbolc εξελίχθηκε στο Candlemas της 2ης Φεβρουαρίου, τη γιορτή που μνημονεύει την έλευση του Ιησού στον Ναό του Σολομώντα, σαράντα ημέρες μετά τη γέννησή Του (η Υπαπαντή της ελληνικής ορθόδοξης Εκκλησίας). Κάποιοι Ευρωπαίοι χριστιανοί, λοιπόν, πίστευαν ότι ένα ηλιόλουστο Candlemas σήμαινε στην πραγματικότητα ότι θα επακολουθούσαν άλλες 40 μέρες κρύου και χιονιού, ενώ στη Γερμανία κήρυσσαν την ημέρα ηλιόλουστη μόνο αν οι ασβοί –και άλλα μικρά ζωάκια που ξυπνούσαν από χειμερία νάρκη– μπορούσαν «να δουν τη σκιά τους!»

Όταν Γερμανοί μετανάστες εγκαταστάθηκαν στην Πενσυλβάνια τον 18ο και 19ο αιώνα, έφεραν το έθιμο μαζί τους, o ασβός έγινε μαρμότα κι ένας συντάκτης τοπικής εφημερίδας στο Punxsutawney το 1887 έπεισε τον κυνηγετικό σύλλογο της περιοχής να διοργανώσει το πρώτο εορταστικό φεστιβάλ. Και κάπως έτσι φτάσαμε στο 1993, όταν οι Bill Murray και Andie MacDowell έκαναν γνωστό τον Φιλ τη μαρμότα, αλλά και το Woodstock του Ιλινόι (την πόλη στην οποία γυρίστηκε η ταινία) στον υπόλοιπο κόσμο.

Για να γιορτάσουμε αυτό το μεταίχμιο των εποχών, εγώ λέω να φτιάξουμε cupcake με πλούσια γεύση κακάο προς τιμήν του χειμώνα –είτε μας χαιρετίσει σύντομα, είτε μας «κατσικωθεί» λίγο ακόμα– και μια υποψία μέντας για την άνοιξη που αρχίζει να ξυπνά!
