The Old State House, part 2
This summer, in 10 posts: The Old State House cont.
Phew! All the snooping around Boston is almost drawn to an end. I’ve got two more stops to bother you with—other than this second and final part at the Old State House—one at the Boston Museum of Science and one at the observatory of the Prudential Center Tower (where you’ll get to enjoy views of Boston from up above). Now, where were we when I last showed you around this fine building?
The Old State House − The Council Chamber
John Hancock’s red, velvet coat…

Tea Caddy. Chinese export glazed porcelain, featuring black and gold on a white ground. Contains tea from the pockets and boots of John Crane. The caddy held some of the tea found in the pockets & shoes of Col. John Crane (1744-1805) when he came home from the Boston Tea Party, at Griffin’s Wharf. According to tradition, he was knocked out by a falling tea chest in the scramble to unload the ship, and after regaining consciousness, he had to hide in the ship until he could escape later that day. Includes porcelain stopper.
